Commercial Garage Doors for Every Industry

Commercial overhead doors are sectional doors built with panel construction, sized and reinforced for commercial and industrial buildings. Garaga's commercial range, including the G-4400, G-5000, EPS and OBI/OB series, is made up of sectional overhead doors rather than roll-up doors.

It depends on the use. The G-4400 is a full-view aluminum door for storefronts and showrooms, the G-5000 is a 3-layer insulated steel door for energy-conscious commercial or industrial buildings, EPS models suit medium to high-traffic industrial and institutional buildings, and OBI/OB open back doors are steel doors built for dependable commercial performance with or without insulation.

Aluminum suits full-view applications: the G-4400 is a full-view aluminum door, non-insulated and 1-3/4'' thick, built for demanding commercial use. Steel suits insulated or heavy-duty applications: the G-5000, EPS and OBI/OB series are all steel doors, ranging from 1-1/2'' to 3'' thick depending on the model.

It varies by series. The G-5000 offers R-12, R-16 or R-18 depending on thickness, the EPS 2024-2025HD and EPS 2026HD offer R-8.7, the EPS 3026 series offers R-7, R-8.9 or R-15.1, and the OBI/OB series offers R-7.2 or no insulation. The G-4400 is non-insulated.

Insulated doors use layered steel construction with foam insulation between the skins, as in the G-5000 and EPS series. Open back doors, like the OBI/OB series, are 1-layer non-insulated steel doors, or can be built as 2-layer doors with polystyrene insulation, so the same series covers both insulated and non-insulated options.

Garaga's commercial doors are sectional overhead doors, built from panel sections such as the 3-layer steel construction of the G-5000 and EPS series or the full-view aluminum panels of the G-4400. There is no roll-up product in this range.

Commercial doors are built heavier for more frequent use. Residential doors run 1-3/8'' to 2'' thick versus 1-3/8'' to 3'' for commercial, and use 2'' track hardware versus 2'' or 3'' thicker steel hardware commercially. Residential springs are rated around 10,000 cycles for about two openings a day, while commercial loading dock doors cycling 25 to 50 times a day use springs rated 25,000 to 100,000 cycles. Residential openers are 1/2 or 3/4 HP at 115 volts, commercial openers run 1/2 to 1 HP at 115, 220 or 575 volts.

R-value measures resistance to heat flow, so a higher number insulates better. Garaga recommends at least R-10 for an attached unheated garage, at least R-12 for an attached heated garage, a lightly insulated or non-insulated door for a detached unheated garage, and at least R-16 for a garage used as a workshop or gym. Thermal breaks and weatherstripping also matter, not just the R-value number.

Cost depends on the door itself, chosen window openings, hardware, opener and installation. Spring systems come standard at 10,000 cycles with options up to 100,000, and lift type, standard, high-lift or full vertical-lift, affects price. Openers vary by voltage, horsepower and mounting, and installation cost differs between new construction and replacement. Heavier use calls for stronger hardware.

It depends on lift type and hardware radius. With standard lift, a 2'' commercial door 8 to 12 ft high needs 12 in. of headroom with a 12 in. radius; over 12 ft it needs 13-1/2 in. with a 12 in. radius or 15 in. with a 15 in. radius, and a 3'' industrial door needs 15 in. Standard lift should not be used with more than 2 ft of headroom, use high lift instead. Low headroom hardware needs only 4 in. at the rear and 8 in. at the front for an 8 to 12 ft door, and a trolley operator adds 2-1/2 in.
